Tutorial/Walkthrough ~~
This game can be a little confusing, so I decided to create a Walkthrough (that begins with a tutorial for new players).
Throughout this guide there will be some spoilers so look at your own risk! I recommend to only look at the guide when you're clueless of what to do, and as for the tutorial... I think everyone should take a look at that, there are no spoilers there. So let's get started.
This is the title screen, the first thing you see when you enter. There are two "NEW" buttons and a "LOAD" button. One of the new buttons will skip the opening cutscene, which is not something I recommend, but only one person can watch the cutscene at a time. If you're really sick of waiting or have already seen it and want to start a new file, click that button in the bottom left corner.
One more thing: If your music/sound/animation aren't on, I highly recommend you turn them on. A huge part of the experience of this dream is the atmosphere.
Tutorial
After watching the cutscene, it's time to learn how to play the game.
I've highlighted the things in the top left corner of the furc screen, this is what I call the interface. This is all the stuff you need to pay attention to during the duration of the dream.
In the GREEN box is the HP and MP. Your HP is how many points of damage you can recieve before being knocked out when you reach 0. If you are knocked out, you can choose to immediately revive for a loss of 30% of your exp, or choose to wait a few minutes before you can revive free. You can also be revived by a Phoenix Down, which is a usable item, but it's rare. Your MP is used up when using spells (but you don't have any yet, so don't worry about that).
In the RED box is are the EQUIP, UNEQUIP, and ATTACK buttons. By clicking on the attack button, you will attack whatever is in front of you with your EQUIPPED weapon. At the beginning, you start out with just your fist. To equip a weapon, you simply just hold it in your hands and click on the E button with an arrow pointing up. To UNEQUIP a weapon, your hands must be empty, and you click on the UE button with an arrow pointing down. You can check the stats of your weapon by saying E out loud.
In the BLUE box (it's kind of hard to see) are the INV, Slot 1, 2, 3, 4 buttons. This is your inventory interface. By clicking on the INV button, it will tell you what you have in your inventory. You have four slots in your inventory to hold any item you pick up. By clicking on the INV button, it will list them out for you. By clicking on one of the slot buttons (the 1, 2, 3, 4) you will swap the item you are CURRENTLY HOLDING with the item IN THE SLOT THAT YOU CLICKED. Say you have a Potion in slot 1, and nothing in your hands. If you click the 1 button, you will take out the potion leaving nothing in that slot.
In the YELLOW box, you have the HELP button. If you click on that, you'll get a message that will tell you what your current objective is.
In the WHITE box you see the EXAMINE button. If you click on that while facing an enemy, it will give you the enemy's name along with the the CURRENT and MAXIMUM HP amounts of the monster.
In the PURPLE box is the spell list. Each one of those 5 circles is a slot for a spell (you have none as of now, but don't worry you'll get some spells!)
Walkthrough - PART 1 (SLIME HORDE
Now that you are ready to begin your journey, we should try to help Railes. If you go South of where the Golden Gryphon stands (the start point) you'll reach a small village called Monterey. If you talk to this NPC, Raiyan, he'll tell you that Railes is able to handle himself and doesn't need help to fight Parallex. But then he makes you a deal. If you can defeat the Giant Slime in the Slimy Plains, he'll let you leave.
So we have our first task set to us. We should probably do a little bit of training first. You should train yourself on the green Slimes (or exchange Bird Feathers with the guy at Monterey) until you are able to reach level 5. Once you do that, you'll get a message telling you that it's time to pick a class. Head on over to the Gryphon where you began your quest.
Now is the time to pick between one of five unique classes. There's the Fighter, the Thief, the Archer, the Cleric, and the Mage. To get info on them just type !Fighter or !Thief (and so on). I'll also give you some info on them here.
Fighter is all about close combat and fares well on his own.
Thief is all about stealing and survives on being quick and sneaky.
Archer is all about staying away from your enemy and using range attacks. (If you choose archer, you should go and find Losila in Monterey village. She'll give/sell you arrows that are needed for archer combat.)
Cleric is all about stacking your defense and healing (yourself and others)
Mage is all about having mid ranged magic attacks that are very powerful.
There's also a spell/classes guide on this website that will help you to choose a class. All of the classes are able to go solo through the entire dream, but it helps a lot to have other people with you. Throughout this walkthrough I'll probably be swapping through classes a lot. So now that you have picked a class, it's time to prepare for the first boss. What you should do is train yourself up on Blue Slimes to get up to around level 10. If you have some friends around that will probably be enough, but if you're by yourself you'll want to get up to around level 15.
One more thing you should know about leveling up if you haven't already figured it out, is STAT POINTS and SPELL POINTS. You can view the lists by saying SS (for stat points) and SSS (for spell points). This list here is the STAT POINTS list. You should pick the stats you upgrade carefully. Attack is very important but you shouldn't neglect speed and defense either.
To upgrade your stats, just say !Stat Health or !Stat Speed (etc.)
This is the spells list. You should try to level up the spells you think are useful. If you are trying to solo this first boss (such as I am) you will probably want to level up both of your spells to Level 2. To level them up you just have to say !LevelSpell 1 and/or !Levelspell 2
(depending on which spell you want to level). It costs 5 Points to level a spell from 1 to 2, and 10 to level it from 2 to 3.
The last thing you need to do before going in to fight the Giant Slime is find one of these keys that drops from the green and blue slimes. If you go all the way over to the North-East corner of the Slimy Plains you'll find this pillar, which you can open using this key.
Also, before you go through that pillar you should make sure to stock up on supplies back in the village. There's a shop if you haven't already found it.
This is usually how I stock up for the first boss. If you feel that you will need more potions than ethers then it's up to you.
I got myself up to level 15 to solo this boss. You should upgrade your attack more if you're going to solo because each boss has a time limit. People soloing often run out of time because they are the only one attacking the boss.
The door works like this: Each square is red except for the one in the middle. It's Green. If you step on a red square it becomes green, and if you press F3 (or type `use) it becomes red. Once all 5 squares are red, all the players standing on the red squares will enter the boss fight together.
This is a pretty simple boss. When I did this I didn't even use any potions. The boss will summon smaller slimes to shield him, and to push you back if you are up close. Just put the pressure on hard and the boss will go down faster than you think. If you run low on supplies, you can just kill the smaller slimes to see if they'll drop a potion or an ether.
(Personally I think the Archer has the absolute best chance of soloing this boss due to the range attacks that are very powerful if you combine them with the Archery aura. This boss has a slow range attack.)
Pretty simple. The one who delivers the finishing blow gets 15 exp ontop of the 200 that everyone gets for defeating the boss. He'll drop some potions, ethers, some gil, and he'll drop a weapon. The weapon is a level 15 weapon, and if you're lucky then you'll get your class' weapon. You can keep fighting this boss if you're eager to get your level 15 weapon, but there's a shop later on where you can buy the same weapon as well.
Now return to Raiyan who will now allow you to leave the village to help Railes. He tells you to bring antidote, make sure you grab some from the shop before you leave. In this next area there are poisonous spiders.
Part 2 (The Trees Have Eyes
This next place is pretty dark and it has a lot of fog. In here you'll have to fight Oozes, Spiders, and other creepy things. You should train a little bit here. Something interesting to note is that the spiders have a 1% chance to drop a phoenix down, making them a good training target.. but you should make sure you have some antidote too.
Your next objective is to reach Lumbering Town, since that's where Railes likely set off to stock up on supplies.
The forest is a little bit like a maze, and it can be hard to find the town. I have a rough sketch of what the first area of the forest looks like, and I drew a line from point A (Monterey Village) all the way to point B (Lumbering Town)
Once you get to lumbering town talk to the blue-haired furre named Kayroark. He'll tell you that he saw Railes head off to Incinerator Mountain and that he'll help you get there if you find his axe in the shed in the forest and bring it back. You also need to find the silver key to get into the shed.
The pink-haired furre has some items for sale, and the purple-haired furre has some level 15 weapons for sale for 200 gil each. Be sure to stock up before going back out into the forest.
This is the map of the firest area in the Sleeping Forest again. The red circle areas are the locations at which the silver key might appear. It will cycle between each of these four positions rapidly, so if you've checked them all and haven't found anything, be sure to keep looking. You'll know for sure when you see the key, because it's silver, bright, obvious and animated to look like it's shining.
Once you've found the key, you should head over to where I showed a yellow circle in this picture. That's where the shed is. The shed itself isn't in this map, but if you go to where that circle is, the arrow on the map is pointing directly to it.
Once you find the key and the shed, you just have to press F3 while standing near the door to go in. The inside is packed with spiders, so you should be careful.
The inside of the shed is like a big maze filled with poisonous spiders. It'll be hard to find Kayroark's axe without a map--but oh wait..
The inside of the shed turns out to be a small building with several rooms. The space is packed tight so it's easy to get locked by spiders. The Deadly Spiders are a good training target too, just make sure to bring lots of antidote. You start in the room labeled 'A' on this map, and your target is in the room labeled 'C'. But if you go all the way over there, you'll see a strage looking set of pillars blocking the way (where I've put that bright yellow X mark). If you go to the room labaled 'B' you'll notice a switch. Hitting this switch brings those pillars down, but it only lasts for a few seconds so you should try to hurry back to the 'C' room. If the pillars close you in that room, don't worry, because there's a switch on the inside. If you can't seem to hit the switch and run back in time, you could get someone to help you. Have one of you wait at the door, and one wait at the switch. The one hits the switch, the other runs in and when the other is ready to in, you just hit the switch inside the room at C to let them in.
Once you get the axe it'll appear in the top left corner of your screen next to the examine button. Then just return to Kayroark the same way you got here.
Once you bring back Kayroark's axe, he'll give you the ability to hop over small gaps. But he says the boots are not powerful enough to get you to where you need to go, so in order to upgrade them you must bring him a piece of bark from the Slumbering Ent.
This map shows you how to get from the Lumbering Town (top circle) to Forest area 2 (bottom circle). Down here you'll find some Tree Ents. These are tough, and the Dark Tree Ents can actually curse you. This takes away your ability to cast spells. The only way to cure it is to use Holy Water, which can be bought in Lumbering Town.
Here's a map of Sleeping Forest area 2, where you'll find Ents and more spiders. The red circle is the entrance (from the first area, the bottom circle on the map right above this one), the blue circle is the pathway that leads to Incinerator Mountaing (but you can't get across because of the huge gap), and the orange circle that shows the Slumbering Tree Ent's lair. You should train on the Tree Ents here, and the Dark Ents too. You should train to about level 35 ~ 40 if you're soloing this but if you have a group, everyone should be at least above level 20 by now.
Training on these is good exp, Dark Ents have a 2% chance to drop a Phoenix Down, and you're going to need an Awakening Key (that they drop) to get into the Slumbering Ent's lair. I trained up to level 41 before deciding to go in for a solo run.
Once you reach this stream here, you need to click on the boots that Kayroark gave to you. This will allow you to hop over the gap and put you right in front of the doorway.
This is what my inventory looks like when I try to solo this next boss. Not bringing Holy Water is a risk. Bringing more potions than ethers might cause you to run out of time (since ethers fill your mp and allow you to use your more powerful attacks) but it's all up to your build. The phoenix down is just a pre-caution, and it's not required. Using the phoenix down will bring you back to life with full hp, so it's even better than bringing another 4 dose potion.
And since I'm playing as a shadow here, I can steal HP from the boss allowing me to not need as many potions.
Once you're ready, use the key in front of the pillar to enter.
This is what my stats look like going into Slumbering Ent solo (being a Shadow, the upgraded version of the Thief).
Personally I think the Shadow has the best chance of soloing this second boss because of his quickness. He can out speed the enemies to not take so much damage, and his 'Cloak' spell allows him to go invisible and slip past the boss' summons.
So here we go.
